SIWES Report for Cooperative Management


SIWES was established by ITF in 1973 to solve the problem of lack of adequate practical skills preparatory for employment in industries by Nigerian graduates of tertiary institutions. The Scheme exposes students to industry based skills necessary for a smooth transition from the classroom to the world of work.

I carried out my industrial Training at the VICDOB CONCEPTS LTD, Port Harcourt. During the 6 months (24 weeks) of industrial training; I acquired a skill on how to Practice with the computer in the area of Microsoft office {word, Power Point and Excel},



  1. Highlight of the report:

The primary factor to enhance performance and productivity in any firm/organization/industry is training.

Student’s industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) is a programme designed by the industrial training (IT) especially for the training of students in various institutions in order to acquire a commendable skill that is technically oriented and also, knowledge in relation to learning process (jemerigbo,2003) within 1993/1994 (information and guideline for SIWES, 2002) the support of the student’ industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) unit  of the national open university of Nigeria, port-Harcourt study center.

This training affords the students to be expose to both practical and theoretical aspect of what they have learnt in the class room.

Students’ industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) and the industrial training (IT) both work hand- in-hand  to expose the student to the external environment and prepare them for the labor market and life after school.

The scheme also gives the students the opportunity of familiarization and exposing them to the needed experience in handling the organization equipment which is not available in their various institutions and how to relate to their various customers since they are the king in any business oriented.

The program should therefore regard as important as to our various course of study, since it is a pivotal tool to the success and development of any nation

Student’s industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) was establish in 1973 to solve the problem of late adequate practical skills preparatory for employment in industries by Nigerian graduates. The scheme exposed student to industrial based skills necessary for smooth transaction from the class room to the world to work.

Brief about Vicdob Concepts Nig Ltd

Vicdob Concepts Nig Ltd is a commercial concern that deals on wide range  of plumbing and building materials respectively and it imports all its wares and customer satisfaction is their priority,  it has Mr Russia Ododofor as the Managing  Director  and was incorporated in the year 2002 under the company and allied decree of 1990. The company is situated along km 4 East West road Port Harcourt



2.1       Nature of Activities Carried Out During the Training Programme

The nature of activities carried out during the industrial training programme was basically practical in nature.

The practical activities carried out during the course of training include

  • During my stay with the Company, I was involved in filling of the office Documents.
  • Preparing the daily report and stock taking.
  • Sorting of some products that is needed to be dispatched.
  • Confirmation of Order before supply
  • Marketing of product and branding
  • Sending of official e-mails to customers

2.2    Process of the training:

Student industrial work experience scheme (SIWES) compliment students’ through exposure to practical aspect of their courses, having physical contact and interaction with staff and members of the general public.

The training paved way for student’s to develop various skills and potential and enhance productivity by adding to services provided by the organization.

The students’ industrial works experience scheme (SIWES) programme is a manpower development geared toward acquiring to attain sustainable development, ability and higher rate of productivity in the organization. (okorie 2002, in Asikadi 2003).

2.3     Relationship of the Training to Course of Study;

The related experience to the course of study is that of the practical work executed during the training which is based on employee interaction and general/staff satisfaction to achieve aims and objectives of the Company.

2.4.    Relationship of Student with Industrial Based Supervisor, Staff and General Public:

On my assumption, I was given a warmth and befitting reception that stimulated and motivated me to bring my best in order to achieve my set objective.

Indeed, the Company was like family following some of interpersonal relationship with mates, supervisors and staff.

The relationship that existed between the student, industrial based supervisor, staff and general public was healthy and interactive.
